Jumping spider Kevin in teneral Stage

When a jumping spider exits its old exoskeleton, it enters the ᴛᴇɴᴇʀᴀʟ stage.

Her new armor is soft and flexible, so she moves slowly while pumping fluid through her legs to stretch and shape them properly.

This hardening process is called ꜱᴄʟᴇʀᴏᴛɪᴢᴀᴛɪᴏɴ proteins cross-link and darken until she goes from soggy little cryptid to fully armored menace.

[[ I think they look like a octopus 𐂠 ]]

You may have heard they are the "most poisonous spiders in the world but their mouths are too small to bite you." Totally false. They aren’t even spiders. They don’t have venom glands, or fangs. They’re harmless scavengers that have been on earth 400 million years, meaning they were walking around Ohio (a much different ohio) 200 million years before the first dinosaur was even born.

Oh they also can voluntarily drop their legs when stressed or attacked a process called autotomy but these lost legs never grow back.
