[RE] My opinion on Life is Strange: Reunion
The game wasn't perfect, but it was definitely a well thought out sequel to the original Life is Strange game. I have a unique perspective because I played ALL of the Life is Strange games for the first time this year. I played the original LIS game for the first time a couple months ago so I’m definitely not blinded by nostalgia.
Chloe's character is more complex and less one-dimensional than she is in the original game. Even though she has her flaws, she is more mature, grounded, calm and sincere. It's easier to empathize with her even if she still has a lot of sass and can be harsh at times. She deeply cares about Max and shows genuine compassion towards several other people.
Max’s character has also developed a lot from the original. She seems a lot more decisive and confident while still keeping her introversion and quirkiness from the original.
Trying to uncover the mystery of who started the fire was also fun, I enjoyed it quite a bit. The cutscenes were well-done. Visually a very pretty game with decent voice acting.
Some of the characters felt flat and not very memorable. (ex. Jeanette, Loretta, Noelle, Reggie, Amanda). A lot of them felt like they fit a very specific trope rather than being explored deeply (which is understandable at times, but I feel like Moses, Safi, Max, Yasmin and Chloe are really the only characters who stick out to me).
Making choices while stopping the fire felt intense and engaging. I wish there was more of a takeaway of Max's powers regarding the butterfly effect...(how messing with time can cause devastating consequences). I don't want to say it defeats the purpose of the original game, but I wish there was some sort of takeaway with that.
Also it would have been cool to see some other characters from the original games! Steph? Kate? Warren? Mikey? I wonder why they didn’t bring any of them back, maybe it wouldn’t have made sense to add them to the game, who knows.
They did a great job with this game. It is impossible to satisfy fans with a sequel, and they did a great job overall. Is it as good as the original? No. But it is still an engaging and fun experience.
