Borrowers Defense Question

Does anyone know if schools are always / sometimes / never notified of Borrowers Defense applications?

Can you cancel an application?

I worked and studied at a university. Took out $10k of loans while studying and working at this school. I submitted borrowers defense applications for two other schools and both were approved. At the time I hadn’t applied for the loans from the school I worked at even though it had been on the list of schools where your loans would be automatically cleared. Because I work for that school and didn’t want any issues.

I was so very certain that I was going to leave my employer for an international move and so I decided why not apply for borrowers defense and see if I can get the rest of my loans discharged. Then, I decided not to move and now I’m afraid they’ve notified the school (my employer) and wonder what may come of that.

My application is now in review as of 5/2026. Submitted around 5/2025.

Chpt 13 questions

I had my 341 meeting last week and my next hearing with the judge is on 7/2. I hired an attorney but the process of filing felt a bit easier than I expected and maybe that’s because I hired an attorney.

Roughly 4 months before I filed I upped my 401 contributions to 8%. I thought my attorney or trustee would have made me lower that but there’s been zero mention of this. Does 8% seem high or is that higher than usual?

I asked my attorney if I would have to provide quarterly bank statements to my trustee and they said no. That after I file I can live life like normal and won’t have to provide any further statements. The only thing I cannot do is gamble (which I never do so no problem). Is that normal for Chpt 13? I thought you had to provide consistent statements?

I asked my attorney if I received a raise while in repayment if my payment would increase. My attorney said they can usually adjust my expenses so my payments wouldn’t increase. Does that sound accurate?

I’m still not out of the woods and have 5 years of payments ahead of me. But I feel like it went smoothly maybe a little too smoothly so any feedback is welcome!
