You aren't just claiming citizenship for yourself. You are unlocking it for your kids and their kids.
I think one of the biggest misconceptions about claiming Mexican citizenship by descent is that it only benefits the person applying.
People think, "Well, I already live in the US, I have a good job, I don't plan on moving to Mexico anytime soon, so why bother with the paperwork?"
But here is the thing: if your parent was born in Mexico, you have a direct right to citizenship. And once you claim it, your children instantly become eligible too.
If you don't claim it, the chain breaks. If your kids ever want to live, work, invest, or retire in Mexico decades from now, they will have to go through the grueling naturalization process like any other foreigner. By doing the paperwork now, you are literally handing your children a second passport and access to an entire country for the rest of their lives.
For those of you who have kids, did securing their future options play a big role in your decision to finally get your Mexican paperwork sorted?
