I wish I’d started playing Tibia sooner
This is probably going to sound like a rant, but maybe some of you will understand me.
I’m 22F, and I really wish I’d discovered Tibia sooner. To be honest, I’ve known about the game since I was 7, because my cool older cousin used to play it, and I thought it was absolutely amazing. But in my head, you needed a much higher intellect to be able to play Tibia, and, well, I wasn’t entirely wrong.
I would watch my cousin play and see how insanely addicted he was to it, and I was always extremely intrigued. I’d tell him, “Dude, make me a Tibia account and teach me how to play,” and he’d always say, “No. Tibia is addictive.”
And so I went on with my life.
When I was 13, I tried playing Tibia, but I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, so I gave up.
I got into other types of RPGs and medieval aesthetics, and, ironically, I ended up playing League of Legends because I thought it had the same kind of aesthetic as Tibia. I spent years playing it. I don’t exactly regret it, but sometimes I think I could have spent that time cultivating other things that would have given me more in return.
Then, at 22, I was studying for my master’s program entrance exam. I was exhausted from studying, so I decided to make a Tibia account again.
By then, my English had improved immensely (i'm brazilian), and I was actually able to navigate the game pretty well. It was surprisingly intuitive. The beginning was rough, but I met some really kind people who helped me along the way.
I first joined Ustebra, and then my cousin invited me to play on Ombra.
I started playing paladin and slowly became addicted to the game. Even while studying for the master’s program entrance exam, I would find a few hours every day to play, and I absolutely loved it. I’d go to Amazon Camp, kill a bunch of Amazons, and my dream was to kill a Witch.
My cousin took me to see the Cyclops in PoH, and I LOVED it. It’s still my favorite hunt to this day, even though it’s probably not the best place for a paladin.
I went hunting Elves in Shadowthorn, started doing the Venore quests… Anyway, I was genuinely captivated by the game.
I reached level 30 and already had a decent grasp of the basics. I even had a pretty good set.
But adult life is cruel.
Tibia is such a fun game, but it’s also difficult and requires a LOT of time and dedication, especially if you’re playing for real progress.
Now that I’ve been accepted into my master’s program, I spend almost 10 hours a day in a laboratory, and there’s very little time left for leisure. And when I do have some free time, I’m often too exhausted to play Tibia because I’m scared of getting completely sucked into it and becoming focused on nothing but the game.
But I miss it so much.
I think what hurts the most is knowing that I didn’t discover the game earlier, when I was 10 or 12, when people say it was the golden age of Tibia, when I HAD TIME, when I had no real worries or responsibilities.
I know I’m being dramatic, but isn’t that what Reddit is for too?
I also know that many of you are responsible adults who somehow manage to balance this monotonous, responsibility-filled life with Tibia. I know there are even people who make a living from the game.
I don’t know. I just hope I can become one of those people who finds a way to make it work.
For now, I’m left with this weird feeling of regret that I didn’t experience all of this earlier, that I didn’t make friends who were living through it too, and that I missed out on experiences that could have become memories I’d never forget.
Anyway, here’s the first dragon I ever killed, frantically spamming potions and heals like my life depended on it.
