True Story of a Toxic Family Friend, Who Convinced a Mother Her Daughter had Behavioural Issues...Any ideas what this was?

This was a UK book. There was a family that got friendly with a woman. The family had a daughter, who was about 8.

This woman was mentally ill. She started pretending that the daughter had misbehaved in different ways. I think there was an incident were she pretended she had cut up some curtains.

The family friend encouraged them to "cancel Christmas", as a punishment for the daughter.

The family were getting more and more concerned about there daughter's behaviour. Then it clicked that it all led back to this family friend, and that she had been victimising their daughter.

Does this ring any bells for anybody?

Just Curious- What Books Would You Want on the National Curriculum?

If you were in charge, and trying to inspire a love of reading, which books would you pick?

I'm just curious. I loved reading as a child. I remember not really liking any of the books we had to read as a class though.

It got me thinking, what great books are out there that should be read in schools? I have a 12 year old. I would love to here people's suggestions.
