My wife inherited a storage trunk from her grandmother, who had got it from her aunt, who had got it from her mom. It was packed to the brim with photos, postcards, letters, clothes, receipts, documents, and miscellaneous nick-nacks accumulated over 100+ years from the late 1880's to the 1980's!

We've discovered some of my wife's grandmother's cookbooks along with some recipes she had clipped from newspapers. We hope to try some of these soon!

I've uploaded an image from one of the cookbooks - the Tennessee Cook Book of Tested Recipes (1956) by Maude L Guthrie. I'd had loved to meet this lady!

We discovered something we were not expecting - a hospital bill (for $20) and a physician's receipt (for $35). The physician's receipt appears to be written on a torn off piece of a brown paper bag!

The hospital bill includes 2 days, the operating room, and drugs and the physician's bill includes an operation and anesthesia.

One of the documents discovered seems to highlight something I'd experienced/felt pretty early in my working career - thinking I was so important to the job that the wheels would fall off if I wasn't around to keep them on. I learned that was not the case and fellow Redditors have shared many stories about their own realizations.

The discovered note (no date, but found in with other documents from the 1920's -'30's) is titled "You Are Not Indispensable" and makes the case our presence may have an impact but that impact is almost immediately gone once we are.
