BrickView - A free and open source .io file browser

Hi All,

I have made a small application that allows you to browse your BrickLink Studio file folders visually. It is a completely free and open source application for Windows (and soon macOS).

I created this small application because I had a hard time finding the model I was looking for by browsing by filename alone. This application makes it a lot simpler to find that exact file.

You can find the application here: https://github.com/devindazzle/BrickView

Hope it is helpful :) Otherwise, let me know what sort of features you would like me to include (or contribute yourself).

Br Kim

1596 Ghostly Hideout Remake

While working on a new MOC I wanted to include a tribute to the classic LEGO Castle set 1596 Ghostly Hideout. This will not be an individual set but will be part of a larger Wolfpack MOC I am working on.

While the original was fairly basic it is still iconic. It was one of the first sets to feature the glow-in-the-dark ghost minifigure. I still have this set in the attic but it is not in a very good shape because I played with it quite a lot as a kid 😊

What is your favorite set featuring the ghost?

Knight's Tournament Pavillion

One of the things I've always found interesting about medieval tournament camps is the variety of pavilions used by knights and nobles. Most LEGO versions tend to be either square or resemble simple camping tents, so I wanted to explore a different approach.

The result is this Knight's Tournament Pavilion.

The entire model is built around an octagonal footprint, which turned out to be the biggest design challenge. Getting all eight sides to line up cleanly while keeping the structure sturdy took quite a bit of experimentation, but I'm really happy with how it came together.

Another feature I wanted to do differently was the walls. Rather than enclosing the pavilion with solid tent fabric, I built a timber frame with hanging banners. It gives the pavilion a more open appearance while still feeling like a prestigious shelter for a noble knight preparing for the tournament.

The roof lifts off to reveal a detailed interior, making it easy to display and enjoy all the details inside.

The finished model consists of 609 pieces, including 2 minifigures, and I think it makes a great addition to any medieval display or tournament scene.

Hunter's Cottage

The inspiration for Hunter's Cottage came after I saw a beautiful medieval cottage built by u/Low-Crazy-5582 on Instagram, It inspired me to create a cottage in my own style, and what started as a simple house gradually evolved into the home of a hunter living on the edge of the forest.

I really enjoyed working on this one, especially refining the thatched roof and filling the cottage with small details that make it feel like a real home. Despite its relatively compact footprint, it includes a fully furnished interior, a woodshed, an apple tree, and plenty of little details to discover.

Wolfpack Mountain Watchtower

My newest LEGO Castle MOC is finally complete!

This Wolfpack Mountain Watchtower started as a simple watchtower on a rocky outcrop, but gradually evolved into a hidden Wolfpack hideout complete with a secret cave, living quarters, and plenty of small details.

The Wolfpack has always been one of my favourite classic Castle factions, so it was a lot of fun bringing this little outlaw outpost to life.

Special thanks to yascr2024 for the inspiration to start this project. The cliff and cave design were inspired by their fantastic MOC Outpost of Bandit Gavas. I would also like to thank marinbrickdesign, whose MOC Watchtower inspired the roof design used in this build.

Black Falcon’s Osprey

I wanted to design a small Black Falcon ship that captures the look and feel of the classic LEGO Castle era while using modern building techniques. The result is this 271-piece warship, complete with a detailed hull, shields, lantern, and a striking Black Falcon ornament.

The hull design was created using images of the fantastic “Medieval Ship” MOC by bricks_fan_uy as inspiration, and I would like to give full credit for inspiring this aspect of the build.

Guarded Inn Reimagined

I have fond memories of playing with the Guarded Inn as a kid. I still have the original set and the instructions in my collection. As a fun challenge, I started working on this MOC of a reimagined Guarded Inn - keeping the most iconic traits while applying more detail and more advanced techniques of today’s LEGO sets. Still very WIP ⚠️

Black Falcon's Beacon

This is my biggest MOC yet!! - although it is only 1293 parts

When I began designing this MOC, my goal was to create a versatile castle stronghold with a small footprint, inspired by the excellent Mountain Tower MOC by bricks_fan_uy

The entire structure is built around a compact core consisting of an 8x10 gate section flanked by two 8×8 side sections connected with hinges. This simple yet effective design allows the stronghold to be displayed in two distinct configurations: a compact, fortified layout with the side walls folded behind the gate, or a wider defensive position with the walls extended alongside the entrance. The result is a stronghold that can easily adapt to different display spaces while maintaining an imposing castle appearance.

The stronghold's beacon became its defining feature, inspired by the many beacon-themed castle MOCs that appeared after the release of the LEGO® Minas Tirith™ set.

This concept helped shape both the exterior and interior of the build. Rising above the main gate, the beacon fire stands ready to warn nearby settlements of approaching danger. Below, a small stable provides shelter for the courier's loyal horse, while simple living quarters offer a place to rest before carrying urgent messages to the king. Together, these elements give the stronghold a clear purpose.

Black Falcon's Aerie (WIP)

Working on this MOC called "Black Falcon's Aerie" (thank you for the suggestion Matthew McCullough), which is a mid-sized stronghold with a falconry for the Black Falcons.

It features a tribute to the legendary 6070 Black Falcon's Fortress (the yellow and black half-timered house) which was my favorite LEGO Castle set when I was a kid.

This set is based on the baseplate setup of the Northern Lights Mountain Tower by bricksfanuy which is perfect for small castles and towers.

The fortress can be opened to reveal the inside. This allows easy access to each of the 6 areas of the fortress. I am considering this a play set and I intent to add several interesting play features.

It is still work-in-progress as I have not really started working on detailing the inside of the MOC and there is still a lot of work to do on the exterior as well, where there is a lot of big 1x6 and 1x8 bricks making up the walls.

The final set will have about 1300 parts and 5 minifigures.
