So, I’m upgrading my backbone to 10GB. However, because I’m in the beginnings of a substantial remodel, I’m using the existing category cable. Some Cat6, some Cat5e (riser cable running buried. Don’t judge, I didn’t do it).
I’ll replace the cable with fiber but here’s the surprise: I’m getting 10gb over Cat6 (100 feet) using the SFP+ to RJ45 adapters. … the really big surprise: I’m getting 10gb over Cat5e also at very close to 100 feet… buried, in the earth! Not what I expected. Not at all what I expected.
