1 week post Orif! (Recovery questions!)

Hey all, not my first post here!
It’s because of you guys I followed up and self advocated which lead to me to having urgent orif surgery 3 weeks after my injury (3 misdiagnoses).

My injury was from falling off a dirtbike, mind you I’ve had much worse falls that I thought would have injured me much worse.

I’m now just over one week out and have been prescribed 6 weeks of NWB with follow up at weeks 2 and 6.

I had slight fractures across my 1-3 Met bases and cunieforms. No displacement on CT however displacement shown up on weight bearing x rays.

My Orif notes are as follows

1st TMTJ: explicitly described as unstable, reduced, K-wired and plated.
2nd/3rd TMTJs: reduced and then fixed with plates/screws.

I haven’t seen my post op X-rays yet but I’m assuming a wire 2 plates and around 10 screws

My post op pain was hell whilst in the recovery room. But since being discharged my pain has been extremely minimal, I’ve only taken Panadol once. Since then I’ve had little shocks here and there and a slight pain when pointing my toes up. But nothing that’s unmanageable

I’m a fairly fit active 21 year old who works an active job. My main goal is to get back into the gym and just be able to walk. I don’t need explosive power for sports as I can do cardio on the bike or rowing machine.

I’m wondering what other people’s recovery looked like and if it’s a realistic goal to be able walk without a boot at about 10-12 weeks in. Anyone else in a similar age bracket with similar injuries/ treatment??

Non surgical with extensive undisplaced fractures

I’m looking at undisplaced fractures throughout my 1-3 metatarsals and cuneiforms, this was confirmed by a CT scan with no misalignment or widening.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar injury and still been non surgical. I’m still awaiting weight bearing x rays.

This injury has really started to take a toll on my mental health and I just want to know if someone has had a similar experience to easy my mind.

Ct scan findings

Hey all got a ct scan finally done 13 days after my injury and this is what was found.

Findings:
CT confirms extensive midfoot fractures.
There is a comminuted fracture through the lateral and inferior cortices of the medial cuneiform with muttiple small avulsion fragments.
Small avulsion fracture from the intermediate cuneiform also noted.
There is a further undisplaced fracture through the inferior cortex of the lateral cuneiform.
There is also a comminuted fracture through the lateral aspect of the cuboid
Small avulsion fracture through the base of the first metatarsal with multiple fragments in the first intermetatarsal space. Further fractures are noted through the inferior cortex at the bases of the 2nd and 3rd metatarsals. The 4th and 5th metatarsal bases appear intact.
There is no significant midfoot malalignment seen.
Ankle joint alignment is preserved.
There is dorsal midfoot soft tissue swelling as expected.
Conclusion:
Extensive midfoot fractures as described.
Your secretary has been informed to draw your attention to the report.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience im pretty bummed. An orthopaedic specialist is reviewing soon and I’ll know what the actual treatment plan is very soon.

CT scan coming up on the 03/08

Hey all for reference,

Injury
21 July 2026: Fell off a dirt bike.
Walked ~2 km afterwards on rough dirt without a shoe.
Initial X-ray showed no obvious fracture and was diagnosed as likely an ankle sprain.
Symptoms
Initially unable to bear any weight.
Pain mainly in the midfoot/top of foot and big toe joint area.
Midfoot swelling.
Bruising under the arch/sole of the foot.
Pain with:
pushing off through the big toe,
standing,
going onto tip toes.
Concern raised for Lisfranc injury, ligament sprain, or hidden fracture.
Recovery
First week: needed crutches, significant limp, difficulty loading the foot.
Around 10 days: bruising improving, swelling mostly midfoot, pain becoming more of an ache that builds with use.
Now: walking much better with a shoe, improving steadily, but still limited by pain with higher loads and push-off still using crutches.

I’ve got a CT scan coming up in a few days after going to 4 seperate doctors, just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and what I can expect from a CT scan.

I’ve been stressing out heaps because I have an overseas holiday booked in about 7 weeks time.

Possible lisfranc?

For context on the 21st of July I had a nasty fall off a dirtbike, immediate pain and swelling. Went to the hospital straight after and had an xray done which did not show anything of concern.

Over the past week I’ve had 3 subsequent visits to GPs who have all told me to just rest and that it’s just a sprain.

My main source of pain comes from when I try to push off my big toe joint. There is also a pain under my foot. The only midfoot pain I have is very mild and is caused by a twisting of the foot. The pain in my midfoot is very tolerable and not extreme. I have no pain whilst resting unless I’ve tried to bear weight on the foot, wherein the foot is in te bottom of my foot.

I don’t know what to do I’ve been told my several doctors to just rest it off but judging off everything I’ve seen on the internet I fear I can’t rule out a lisfranc injury. I live in Aus and have tried to get an MRI referall but again the GP told me it’s not required.
