Kids in the office?

What is your workplaces view on bring kids to work during school holidays? So far nothing bad has happened but I’ve noticed it’s a distraction when they’re running around unsupervised or sometimes even when supervised.

It’s great the parents feel the location is safe enough for kids and I can imagine finding childcare is expensive but…

what’s the line between being accommodated and being unprofessional?

Greece

Γεια σας!

Είμαι ελληνικό του εξωτερικό και θέλω να μένω στην Ελλάδα το χρόνο επόμενο στης Ιούλιος.

Έχετε συστάσεις ότι να μένω η πως μπορώ να διαβάζω ελληνικά;

I’m thinking to stay in Crete, Peloponnese or Thessaloniki for a month, get a part time job to practice Greek and learn the culture.

Greek Arranged Marriage

How did arranged marriages work back in the day?

I’m sure it was mostly in the villages but how common was it? What made a good match? What factors did families consider? Who did the negotiations?

Vibes based hiring

The labour markets fucked and it’s taking longer to find new jobs. The average time to find a new job is 6 months even for experienced candidates.

I’m not saying it as a “good” thing but given the flood of candidates, are hiring managers placing more importance on culture fit than experience?

Has anyone hired or been hired based on vibes, personality, or energy?

Why are American men so afraid of their bodies?

I’m from Australia and the first thing that I noticed when I moved to America was as everyone making comments about my rugby shorts. They’re a little shorter than normal shorts but they’re comfy for summer and they remind me of home.

I also noticed no one wears budgy smugglers (swim briefs) and when I did in North Carolina I got a bunch of stares and maybe a homophobic slur

It’s not that big of a deal in Sydney where I’m from and assumed the same since America is so massive and diverse

Redundancies?

What are you seeing or hearing in terms of redundancies in Sydney?

I’m at a small tech company that is “streamlining processes “ but seems like sales and operations are getting cut.

Any other activity in your industries?

Property in Greece

Long story short my grandparents owned an olive farm outside of Chania but after my grandmother passed, the heirs started fighting and now the property hasn’t been registered in over a decade. My uncle is living there but has completely destroyed the place and the farm is nonfunctional. I hear the neighbors are fighting over it too and want to steal it…

I heard about the 2026 Property reforms and thought this would be a good chance to present myself as an interested party to secure the farm for myself by fronting the legal fees and “cleaning” it up. There are over 10 years of back taxes to be paid too.

I’m 30m raised in the USA and see this as a possible opportunity to acquire land/equity and turn it into a business.

I know this needs a lawyer so not looking for legal advice. I’d like to hear from others who have been in a similar situation and what is going in Crete. Is it worth saving?

Edit:

Thanks for the feedback! I think I’ll leave it given how complicated it is. I’ll just look elsewhere for an apartment or house somewhere else.
