Need advice for my first rack
Hey guys,
This is gonna be quite a long post, so I already appreciate anyone taking the time to read it, and wanted to say thank you in advance.
I’m about to build my first rack for manly Raw/Deep/Hypnotic/Minimal Techno with focus on Kick, Bass Groove, percussions and generally more a-tonal stuff.
My goal is more live performance and jams rather than producing.
I have a budget of roughly 3500-4000 US-Dollar.
I obviously don’t wanna spend more than necessary, but I definitely wanna start straight with good Moduls that I’m gonna end up keeping.
I have a few things I’m pretty set on and a few ideas where I’m not too sure if they’re the best choices, especially when it comes to utilities and playability.
So yeah, I’m just looking for general advice and wanted to see if my idea makes sense.
Case
I already decided for the Erica Synths 2x104 aluminium case as I want something robust that I can transport safely, and something that has enough space to grow into later.
Kick
I also already ordered the Ohmforce Bohm + Bohm Performer and Bohm Groove as the Heart and To fill in a lot of the lowend.
Master clock/ Sequencer
The last thing I already got is the Pamela’s Pro Workout to function as the brain, as a first sequencer and for some modulation.
But I’m not sure if it’d be smart to get something like the Intellijel Steppy or something alike as well to have a more quick and easy way to program sequences.
Voice/Percussion
Im thinking about getting the Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas Alia for percussive sounds and kind of a main voice, as I think the gritty/dirty sound and the versatility should do a good job for my intentions.
I’m not sure if something like the Squarp Instruments Rample Turbo would be smart to get as well for standard drums/percussions like claps and hats.
Generally very open to any advice or ideas for alternatives.
Mixer
So far I’ve been thinking about either the After Later Audio Bartender v2 or the Cosmotronic
Cosmix Pro, but I tend more towards the Bartender
as I like the cue function on the individual channels and also the option to expand for later.
Again, I’m very open to other ideas on this one.
Filter
I’m tending toward the WMD C4rbon, as it got some light saturation and wave folding in there and overall I liked the sound from what I could hear in samples.
Once again very open to alternatives here.
Effects
I probably gonna get the Make Noise Mimeophon, as I heard it being praised** **by pretty much everyone and I think it’s good for some trippy effects.
Utilities
Thought about Happy Nerding 3xMIA, Intellijel Quad VCA and Intellijel Outs.
Here I’m very unsure if that’s gonna be enough and it’s the rights Moduls.
Modulation
Everybody is talking about Make Noise Maths and it seems to be one of the most versatile and best Moduls on the market, but I’m not sure if that’s something I should get straight in the beginning or if it’s maybe something for later on.
I also thought about the XAOC Devices Zadar for some envelopes, but I’m generally unsure with these two and generally the topic of modulation.
That’s my idea so far, but I can imagine that it’s far from optimised for that budget and probably missing some things while some are too much.
I’m thankful for any opinions and advice.
Cheers.
