Good Ozark folklore for a fae story?
I am currently in draft 2 of a novel about fae living hidden in the Ozark mountains, and I realized I would be amiss to not at least allude to some of the local folklore. I am struggling to find the volume of folklore concepts that places like Appalachia have. I’ve grown up in the Midwest but have no exposure to local folklore. So far I’ve learned of the Hide-Behind, Gowrow, and Snawfus, but none of these quite match what I’m looking for. Frankly, I don’t know what I’m looking for. Spooklights, the Wampus Cat, and the “little people” of the Cherokee may fit well with my story’s plot, but I’d love even more possibilities. Please share what folklore you would be excited to see featured in a story about fae living in the Ozarks!
