How can I use these speakers again?
I have these old Yamaha PA monitors. They’re passive, with only 1/4” jacks on the back which I’ve only used as inputs from a Peavey PVI4B 4 channel PA that was a hunk of junk, and I’ve daisy chained them once before. I never bought any of this stuff, someone left it in an old band rehearsal space and I’ve kept them.
Now the Peavey doesn’t work but I’d like to donate them to a youth non-profit along with a mixer that I intend to buy brand new.
My question is: what piece of equipment do I need to power these speakers from something like a cheap mixer like a Behringer Xenyx or Yamaha MG or something?
Context: the non-profit teaches elementary students the fundamentals of playwriting, and they hire real local actors to perform the plays, it’s amazing. I just want them to make use of the speakers for having a microphone on stage for announcing/narrating. We did this with the old Peavey PA but instead of getting another crappy one with only 4 channels, I wanted to get a little mixer with a few more channels so we can do little musicals. I’m a guitarist, and aside from instrument amplification, and my experience using digital consoles with powered speakers, I have no live audio engineering experience. I know the term “power amp” but when I’ve googled it, I’ve seen equipment with wires coming out that I’m supposed to wire up? I’m sure I’m searching the wrong thing or asking the wrong question. Help please?
Edit: question answered, you all are the best!!
