Thoughts on Shanti & Co at the Cause 16/05

Interested to hear people’s takes on the all day/nighter this last Saturday. I ended up joining some friends last minute, not wanting to commit as the past few times I’ve been (for night stuff) it’s been mostly underwhelming.

Arrived around 4 so it was just the courtyard open. Couldn’t really find my groove for that. Tech House seems to have made a comeback (or maybe it’s just a London day staple at this point). No real stand outs, lots of yap on the floor but I think there’s a bit of acceptability for that, especially as the music was playing out more like a backing track. Lots of areas to stand for a little boogy. Drinks prices only got better after a few of them.

Made my way to the workshop around 9 for an hour of Dresden. I’d happily grab tickets to just see that part of the cause. Fantastic booth and speaker set up, the red light glowing over the decks made me feel like I was in a very different club to what else was around. Big wobbly techno moments, and far more stuff than I can personally put a name / label to. Very cool. I didn’t appreciate the yapping this time though - the suns gone down, surely if we’re still catching up then don’t do it right next to the booth?

The gallery was incredibly non sweaty with all the AC which was appreciated, all three DJ’s bringing the heat and great uptempo stuff. Love the darkness and nooks of that floor. Shame it ended at 3 but if there crowds has also thinned out.

I don’t have a lot to say on the Warehouse, and quite frankly it was no different to much else I’ve had to hear there during the past few years. Pretty bland selections, you’ll leave and come back never really sure much has changed. I appreciate I could have missed lots, but half an hour before the end Gene on Earth still hadn’t taken us anywhere so it was off home for me.
