Experiences with half masks
I thought share my experiences with the different half masks Ive used over the years. I am immunocompromised so I wear them quite often, as well as for DIY projects.
3m 6200: Very comfortable when used with lighter weight filters like the 7093 series filters, but gets uncomfortable after awhile when you use heavier combo filters. Least durable in my experiences. Works the best with the 3m GG2891-SGAF goggles.
3m 7500: Overall most comfortable mask for all filter types, and is more durable then the 6200 mask. Doesn't work as well with goggles however. The type of silicone has been found to absorb certain contaminates in my experience like tear gas or Pava pepperball powder (journalism experience), and those types of things will not wash out of the mask no matter how hard you try.
3m 6502 quick latch:
Most durable 3m mask, but works best with heavier filters in my experiences as the silicone on this mask is the least comfortable out of all of them, and will dig into your face if you arent using the heavier combo filters that help to pull some of the weight off the seal. Hard to use with most types of goggles.
3m secure click: Even softer silicone them what's used in the 7500 masks, but the mask is Overall heavier, so I found its best used for longer periods with lighter p100 filters. Its the best everyday wear mask so far as it has a speech diaphram , and like with the other 3m masks, you can get p100 filters that also filter nuisance smells. Also hard to wear with goggles. This mask can be annoying to wear with glasses but it still works. Thinner metal frame glasses generally work better with all half masks.
Msa comfo: Also a very comfortable mask for those who have smaller thinner faces. Works well with most goggles, but when putting the mask on quickly, the snaps tend to pop off. Because of the poor packaging that the combo filters come in, they always arrive already expired, so the comfo mask is really only good with the comfo p100 filters.
North honeywell masks are also comfortable, but its very hard to find filters for them in person, so for preparedness purposes , 3m masks generally work better as the filters are easily accessible.
I think Klein electronics makes a p100 respirator? Haven't tried that one yet though.
