I already wrote this in other communities, but by sharing it again I hope to reach more people.

I came across some pagan groups, specifically in Spain, and discovered extremely elitist environments, both religiously and politically.

In these groups, I found comments such as:

“Magic is for women.”

“Africans cannot practice our faith.”

“Only people of pure lineage can join.”

“This is a dogmatic religion based onold text and we have strict rules.”

Personally, I do not consider this a religion in the rigid sense, but a spiritual practice and belief — a path where we learn, connect, and grow. I want to share a phrase that deeply resonated with me:

“I believe in the gods, I believe in fate. If your belief is based only on texts written by monks, then you do not believe in the gods — you believe in the words of a monk.”

We are pagans. We are nature, we are spirituality. We follow the call of the gods because we believe in them and because they help us learn and understand ourselves. We are death, and we are life.

I hope this post helps someone else release their frustration and maybe connect with more open-minded people.

I’m honestly tired of the hatred and elitism I’ve encountered among some pagan groups. After trying to get to know a couple of pagan communities in Spain, I found groups that were extremely elitist, both religiously and politically. I also read about another girl who had a very similar experience with one specific group.

In these groups, I came across comments like:

• “Magic is for women.”
• “Africans can’t practice our faith.”
• “Only people of pure lineage can join.”
• “This is a dogmatic religion and we have strict rules.”

On top of that, there was a huge amount of hatred toward others and toward people who follow different beliefs and cultures.

I tried to explain my point of view, discuss things calmly, and give arguments, but it was impossible.

I hope this post helps someone else vent their frustration and maybe connect with more open-minded people.

La verdad es que estoy bastante cansado de encontrar grupos ásatrú/odinistas/paganos donde al final todo gira o alrededor de una orientación política muy marcada, o de un apego extremo a los estudios y las fuentes, invalidando totalmente la práctica personal y la experiencia individual.

Soy de la zona norte de España, entre Navarra/País Vasco, y escribo esto simplemente para encontrar gente con creencias similares con la que poder hablar tranquilamente, compartir puntos de vista e incluso hacer prácticas juntos si surge.
