Issue Adding Dependent in US Visa Scheduling Portal

Issue Adding Dependent in US Visa Scheduling Portal

My mom and brother are applying from India for their B1/B2 US visitor visas.

They filled out their DS-160 forms SEPARATELY and submitted them (not as a family application). And In the “Travel Companions” section made sure to add each other’s names accordingly.

Then my mom created her US visa scheduling account using the same email address mentioned in her DS-160 form. She then proceeded to add my brother as a dependent by selecting “Add Dependent” → “Create New Dependent,” since my brother has never created any US visa scheduling account before. This is his first time applying for a US visa.

1.

2.

But as soon as she entered my brother’s email address (the same one he used in his DS-160 form) the portal displayed an error saying that an account with this email already exists.

3.

Could anyone please help or clarify how this is possible when my brother has never created any account on the US visa scheduling portal before? Whats the solution now!!!! Thank you sm in advance!!

Community,

I graduated in Dec 2025 and have been working at a top MNC since Jan 2026 on OPT. I am applying for a US tourist visa for my family.

My mom is a teacher (55), my dad is a self employed lawyer (60) with his own small office and 2–3 juniors working under him. My elder brother graduated in law (July 2025, from DU) and has been working with my dad since September 2025(officially), helping handle cases and continue the legacy.

But my brother hasn’t filed any ITR YET and my dad and brothers earnings so far have been deposited into my dad’s account.

Should I mention that the available funds (around 15–20 lakhs in my parents’ joint account) are jointly held by my parents and my brother and that they will be covering their travel expenses?

Or would it be nicer to mention that I will be sponsoring them even though they have the funds themselves?

What should we keep in mind for the consular interview for my brother?

Do you have any tips or suggestions on what we should prepare to improve his chances?
