Looking for a good long term hostel in Melbourne

I arrived in Melbourne yesterday and I’m currently staying in a hostel in Fitzroy, but honestly I’m not really liking the place, so I’m looking to move somewhere else for a longer stay.
I don’t really mind which area of Melbourne I’m in, as long as it’s reasonably easy to get around. I don’t drive, so having good access to trams/trains/buses is pretty important, especially as I’ll need public transport to get to work.
I’m looking for somewhere that’s suitable for staying for a few weeks/months rather than somewhere that’s mainly short-term/party-focused.
Does anyone have any recommendations for good long-term hostels in Melbourne? Ideally somewhere with a decent social atmosphere but not a massive party hostel.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Moving to Melbourne next week need some advice

Hey guys, I’ve been travelling SE Asia for the last 6 months and in less than a week I’ll be moving to Melbourne to live for a year on my WHV.
My plans have suddenly changed as I was originally going to Perth, so I don’t really know much about Melbourne. My two main concerns at the moment are finding somewhere to stay and getting a job.
A friend of mine stayed in a hostel in Perth for a few months and I was planning on doing the same in Melbourne. Is this pretty normal there? I know I’ll probably look into house shares further down the line, but ideally I’d like somewhere I can stay for a while when I first arrive and get myself sorted.
My money is getting pretty low after travelling for 6 months, so I’m going to need to find work pretty quickly. What’s the best way to go about finding a job ASAP? I’ve worked as a mechanic and labourer since leaving school, but honestly I’ll do pretty much anything at this point.
I also don’t drive, so I’ll be relying on public transport/walking. Are there any areas I should avoid staying in because they’re too far out or difficult to get around without a car? Or any areas that would be better for finding work without driving?
Any advice on hostels, areas to stay or finding work would be really appreciated!

Moving to Melbourne, need some advice

Hey everyone, I’m from England and was originally planning on moving to Perth on my WHV, but plans have suddenly changed and I’m now flying to Melbourne in less than a week.
I was planning on staying in a hostel for the first month or so while I got settled and found work. Is it common for backpackers to stay in the same hostel for a few weeks/month? Any hostel recommendations would be appreciated too.
Is there a particular area of Melbourne that would be best to stay in? I can’t drive, so I’ll be relying on public transport/walking.
I’m also looking to get a job ASAP. Back home I’ve mainly worked as a mechanic and labourer for builders, but I’m honestly willing to do pretty much anything to get started. I’d just prefer to stay away from bar/hospitality work if possible. Where’s the best place to look for work like this, especially without a car? Are there certain areas or types of jobs I should be looking at?
Any advice on good areas to stay, hostels or finding work would be massively appreciated!
