I left my BK on the couch for 2 minutes… apparently it belongs to her now

She walked straight over, inspected it like she was checking the quality, and then refused to move.

At this point I’m not sure if she likes the bag or just hates that something else is getting attention.

Cat people — do yours also immediately claim whatever you care about most?

One is au-th, one is r-ep — which one did you notice first?

I put these two next to each other and was way too confident about which one would stand out.

Then I kept looking.

One is au-th and one is r-ep, but the longer I compare them, the more I notice totally different things on each one.

I already have my answer obviously, but I’m curious what everyone’s first instinct is.

Left or right — and what made you choose it?

Small hard-ware engraving details I actually notice

Hardware engravings are one of those tiny details I always end up looking at, but I’d never judge a whole bag based on one small marking alone.

A few things I usually notice:

  • Letter shape and spacing — I like when the lettering looks balanced, not too stretched or crowded.
  • Engraving depth — clean and even looks better to me than anything too deep, blurry, or rough around the edges.
  • Alignment — the text should sit naturally on the hardware instead of looking noticeably tilted.
  • Metal finish — the surface, corners, and edges should feel consistent with the rest of the piece.
  • Moving parts — turnlocks, zippers, and clasps matter too. A pretty engraving doesn’t mean much if the hardware feels awkward to use.

One thing I’ve learned is that engraving styles can vary depending on the design, hardware finish, age, and normal wear, so I don’t think there’s one single font or depth that tells the whole story.

I usually look at hardware together with the leather, stitching, shape, and overall feel.

What small hardware detail do you usually notice first?

Which one would you take to Provence for lavender season?

I’m heading to the South of France and only want to bring one purple Kelly.

The Box one feels deeper and moodier, while the Epsom looks brighter and more obviously purple.

Now I’m overthinking which one would look better against the lavender fields.

Which one are you taking with you?
