What if the Elden Ring film is actually about the Night of the Black Knives?

Seeing the set photo of Ben Whishaw, who looks very much like he's playing Rogier, got me thinking.

Rogier's entire story revolves around uncovering the truth behind the Night of the Black Knives. He's one of the few characters actively investigating what really happened and the consequences that followed.

Then I looked back at the cast list and another thought crossed my mind: what if Sonoya Mizuno is playing Alecto, Black Knife Ringleader, and Havana Rose Liu is playing Tiche?

It's probably complete nonsense and will almost certainly turn out to be wrong, but it's a fun theory to kick around.

If Whishaw really is Rogier, I wonder if the film could be centred on the Night of the Black Knives itself, or at least the mystery and fallout surrounding it. That event is arguably the catalyst for everything that comes afterwards, Godwyn's death, Marika's actions, the Shattering, and ultimately the state of the Lands Between when we arrive.

Rather than trying to adapt the game's entire story, a film focused on the conspiracy, investigation and political fallout of the Night of the Black Knives could actually make a lot of sense. It would give the story a clear central mystery while still letting us see many of the major players before the Shattering tears everything apart.

Probably reading far too much into a single set photo, but it's interesting to think about.
