silly little remix in honor of the 10th anniversary of one of my fav albums.
the wokest album evah
found the special from Paul Moonry that JPEG samples on "the art of projection". Highly highly highly recommend. Extremely funny & imo vital to understanding EXPERIMENTAL RAP.

isolated and pitched up the section as much as I could and its definitely Freaky
lyrics are hard to make out but my best guess
"proof its the people that wanting my inches (my existence)
they know what i want
yall n****s want proof
how would you (?) is it pop
they boo when i win, yao ming"
i released a video discussing jpegmafia's discography through a critical lense. curious what y'all think
"he tryna get some butt"
There is plenty of room to criticize the misogyny on this album, but I would pose that JPEGMAFIA uses an extremely fascinating artistic lense that reframes the context. The frame he is using is liking "women" to fans generally. The largest theme you get throughout the album is JPEG bragging about "fucking your bitch" but when he says that he is not speaking to me or you, he is speaking to other artists, and he pointing out the relationship between choice in market capitalism and faith. By tying the relationship between "fucking" to "listening" the reality of fighting for Internet attention and streams becomes more clear. He is not trying to "make love" to the fans, he simply needs a quick fuck. Most listeners will listen to Earl Sweatshirt, Freddie Gibbs and JPEGMAFIA, but what JPEG is doing is providing a market product that is simply impossible to get fron any other artist. You might listen to Earl consistently and be Earl's loyal gf, but you can't help but see what your crazy ex-bf, JPEG, who fucked you better than anyone, is still up to. So you listen to the album maybe once or twice and that still translates to more streams and more profits and maybe just maybe you take him back. This can also be seen very directly in the last song title. There is the obvious manospher vibe, but the deeper level is lost without this artistic lense. What JPEG is stating is the idea that he can loose plenty of people as fans through his antics and sonic changes, but it doesn't matter because there will always be a different market, different people, different women, to appeal to. If you have enough $(Money) you can simply buy access to new markets.
Curious what y'all think!
A couple pics of Freaky got uploaded for the single promo dump on Peggy's Instagram account. It's probably been posted here already, but I wanted to make a post just in case.
Edit: just saw a post lol
extremely funny and woke
this song alone clears everything on POMPEII//UTILITY sorry not sorry
it was one of the most interesting things I'd ever seen from him and it used to be on the 89MAFIACULT YouTube page but I think it was unlisted. curious if anyone has a link to it.
