Spent a week at my friends apartment in Montreuil, came home with a handmade Marionette

We arrived last Saturday night just in time for the big lightening storm! It was amazing to watch everyone at the restaurants cheer every time the thunder crashed. First photo was our view from the apartment, second is the louvre, third is Claire de Rêve, a PHENOMENAL puppet shop on Rue St-Louis-En-L’île. Then my partner and I at the Louvre, the last photo is the had made marionette I purchased at Claire de Rêve!

I had a few taxi drivers ask how Montreuil was, if I felt safe, and honestly it was such a beautiful and alive neighborhood I never would have guessed it may have been a little sketchy. The food and shops were amazing, with a special shout out to Les Enfants Terribles, an amazing toy store on capitaine Dreyfus!

But really and truly the highlight of my whole tripe was Claire de Rêve. I collect puppets and teach puppet making to kids, and Gil, one of the artists at Claire de rêve, was incredibly kind and helpful. He told us the shop is made up of 5 artists, three from Paris and two from the Czech Republic, and all of the puppets were handmade by them. It was clear how much he loves his work and he was happy to show me how to work the marionette I bought (the last photo in this post!)

Thank you to all who recommended Claire de Rêve, it was such a special experience and I can’t recommend enough stopping by there if you get the chance. I also loved Montreuil and cannot recommend checking out all of the shops and restaurants there!!

Worried about my partner

My partner and I have been together for going on six years. He’s had seizures the whole time we’ve been together, but in the past year they have been getting significantly worse.

For a long time he would get maybe three or four focal aware seizures at the end of every month, but now he’s getting upwards of 10 throughout the month and at least one or two grand mals a month.

He regularly sees his neurologist, and has recently been given the okay to pursue for VNS.

But his seizures increasing in frequency and intensity have been deeply affecting his job and his mood (for obvious reasons)

He works as a bar tender at a neighborhood bar, and his coworkers are really supportive and they all have my phone number in case anything happens. He also does a lot of public speaking, and recently his seizures have made him begin calling off performances. Largely he just pushes through the day even if he’s had a seizure. If he has a focal awareness seizure at work he’ll finish his shift regardless of how exhausted he feels. If he has a grand mal at work he’ll usually come home, but it’s a toss up.

We also are going on our first big international trip this summer to a friends wedding where he will be in the wedding party. He has been dreading the travel because he is so worried about having seizures.

The seizures are happening so often with such intensity now I have been worried about going out and doing things without him. I’m worried that he’ll need me and I won’t be able to be there to support him.

I’m also so worried about his mental health. He is not going out to do things and avoiding social situations because he is so worried about having seizures.

I wish I could help him. I wish we knew why his seizures have been ramping up like this. Every day is so stressful when we don’t know if something is going to happen. I am worried about him losing his job if he has to keep missing work. Our finances have been resting on me because he can’t work as much as he used to. I am a preschool teacher so I don’t make a ton of money, I’ve picked up extra jobs to keep us afloat but I am working 7 days a week and am so exhausted.

This is sort of just a rambling post. I wish I could do more to help him, I wish he had answers or a solution.

If you have epilepsy, what are you doing for work? How do you handle your seizures increasing in frequency or severity? We are barely keeping our heads above water and I am so worried about him stretching himself too thin.

Karaoke in Paris?

Hello!

I’ll be staying in Montreuil for around a week at the end of June. I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for good Karaoke spots in that area (or in general!)

I like a divey vibe but am open to anything! I just like having fun :)

Thanks!!

Hello!

I posted this about a week ago and thought I had the need filled, but the person gifting it ended up not being able to.

I’m currently seeking a walking pad! I have recently been working long and weird hours, leaving me no time to go to the gym. I’d love to be able to get some exercise at home between jobs!

If anyone has a walking pad they are looking to part with I would be incredibly grateful!!

Thank you so much!!
