Latest weather updates

GFS and Euro models are now in agreeance for over a day now, over every run:

There will be a cold front hitting something around opening day. Could be Saturday, could be Monday. What does that mean?

For Build Teams:

The weather will be very "normal" throughout build week. Don't let it fool you. When the front hits, it could gust over 50mph. Complete white out conditions for HOURS. All build teams need to do extra strapping and lag bolts installed by Friday. This isn't 2025, we have advance warning this year. Secure EVERYTHING by the weekend!!! Zero loose items!!! We don't need people getting injured by things smacking them in the face.

For people entering Sunday and on:

There is a chance of rain when the front passes, but it will be quick and light.

The first half of Burn Week is going to be COLD. Highs in the 60s to low 70s during the day early in the week. It could dip into the 30s overnight. Make sure you pack plenty of blankets, jackets, and gloves.

By the time the Man burns, temps should be getting back to "normal".

Euro Weather Models finally reach out to 8/31 for opening day

Blah blah blah weather is unpredictable especially this far out, anything could happen between now and then yadda yadda, but it's a general idea of what we might see through Monday. No signals for anything crazy that's all I'm concerned about, like last year raining on Sunday and Monday shutting down the gates for 12+ hours. As of right now, and it could change, that isn't in the books for 2026. THANK YOU NATURE!

Highs in the 80s, no clouds, no rain, wind 15mph gusting 25mph.

If your camp depends on solar power?

The smoke isn't going away. Panel production will be reduced up to 60% of rated output. Your 3000w array might only produce 1800w peak. Bring backup means of battery replenishment (gas generator) to run 2-3hrs a day if your array is on the ragged edge of what you require.

This is your 3 week warning to start acclimating your body to the heat

Starting now. Today. Not tomorrow. Start taking walks between 3-5pm to condition your body to being outdoors in the heat. Up to an hour a day, 5 days a week. If you start NOW, by the time you drive in the gate, your week on the Playa will be much more enjoyable as you won't feel like you're going to die. It takes at least 14 days for your body to acclimate and adjust.

And yes, it's going to be a VERY hot year due to El Nino. Extreme heat warnings are being posted every day in Gerlach currently. Do it.

Changes to West 6th

Okay here's what I know and some speculation, anyone have any more info?

- No word yet what will take over Kung Fu, but the same people who created the massively busy Marfa Lights is taking it over as well so expect something cool.

- The old WTF/Space Fox venue is now going to reopen soon as "Happy Bar"? Looks like they're pushing for a opening ASAP.

- Pop & Play are now closed for the return of Katz Never Kloses on the 1st floor of the Rio building due to open March 2027. The 2nd and 3rd floor of the Rio building will be leased out for other venues.

Speculation time:

Originally Momo's occupied the 2nd floor above Katz, which was one of the best music venues in Austin. If I was a betting man, I'd put my money that it will be Emo's new location downtown.
