Forced to Make a Change
I'm 48 and going through cancer treatment. Been in the industry full-time for 10ish years mostly doing audio.
Part of the permanent side effects of the chemo is hearing loss. My hearing has been reduced to that of a late 90's low bitrate MP3 file.
While I can still do some audio work, like corporate A2, RF coordinator, and general set/strike work. My days working behind a console are over.
I know lighting enough to be a L2 or ME but I'm not great at programing or running a console. I know enough to do it, but I'm not fast. Obviously getting time behind the consoles will help with that.
I know enough video to be dangerous. I can run a small streaming rig on my own doing PTZ ops, media playback, and TD all at one time.
So what I'm trying to figure out is how and where to pivot.
It's honestly a little scary being this age and having to change so much of what I do for a living.
Has anyone else had to do a hard pivot like this later in life? How did it go and any advice you can offer?
Pic of my pup for attention.
