Hi- we are going to Vieques in August and are planning to go kayaking at mosquito Bay to experience the bioluminescence. We know what day we are going because we have to fly back two days later.
How far in advance do we need to book a kayaking tour? We don’t want to miss out on this experience so we need to book an advance if we would like to do that ahead of time. TIA!

We had planned to stay in San Juan (Condado) when we first arrive. We plan to see Old San Juan and go to some beaches around there. We have 6 days on the main island before we head to Vieques for 2 nights. Our last night will be near the airport because we have an early flight home. We’re trying to figure out where exactly to stay and what to plan on seeing for the rest of the trip.
Question: should we avoid Condado because of the water shortage? Also, is there a dangerous water condition (rip tide?) there?
My boys love ocean sports as well as hiking and water slides. It sounds like we will likely do an early am hike at El Yunque and lunch at Luquillo beach with beach that afternoon at some point. It sounds like getting a boat from the mainland to Icacos for snorkeling is something we'll also likely do at some point.
I’m also looking at some of the mountain and cave experiences for us; I would love to experience the karst and some caves. I read about Parque de los Cavernas del Rio Camuy and saw here that Reserva Natural Cueva del Indio is really popular. The Cueva Ventana sounds nice but that it might be crowded... The Bosque Estate de Toro Negro seems like it has a peak with spectacular view of the north and south of the island and is less crowded.
Questions:
**-**Looking also at Gozalandia Waterfall (Cascada Gozlandia) and wondering if that's worth the drive- does anyone here have thoughts on this??
**-**Anyone here have thoughts on these places (Toro Negro, Cavernas del Rio Camuy, Reserva Natural Cueva del Indio, Cueva Ventana)?
-What would be a good thing for our family to do to experience the caves and/or waterslides and hiking (other than El Yunque)?
I've been reading about the Taino and indigenous culture and would like to learn more.
Question:
-is it worth a trip to Jayuya or Utuado? La Piedra Escrita? Museo el Cemi? or the Centro Ceremonial Indigen de Tibes near Ponce?
We live in California but we don't surf- and in my experience the best surfing beaches aren't the best for swimming. We've visited many surfing places in CA.

**-**I’m not sure if the PR west coast is different enough or if Rincon and the west coast is worth going- does anyone have thoughts?
We have booked our last two nights in Esperanza in Vieques (to take advantage of the darker sky) and plan to do the bio bay on the penultimate night of our trip to take the best advantage of the night sky. We plan to purchase the ferry tickets ASAP when they open up.
Questions about Vieques:
-How far in advance to we need to make reservations for Mosquito Bay kayaking?
-There is also an opportunity to snorkel near turtles here- doesn't sound as good as what's on Culebra so unsure if that's worth it- does anyone here know?
-Vieques National Wildlife Refuge- what is the best thing to do here? One guidebook I have recommends mountain biking in the western part.

-What am I missing from this list of things?
-We will probably visit Ponce on the south- anything else to see there?
-What about the Pork Route? (Something we’d see on our route to Ponce anyway right?)
-Is Loiza a good place to visit? (I read it’s a good place for Afro-PR culture)
-Anywhere else on the south coast worth seeing? (I’ve read that the south, specifically Salinas, is renowned for their seafood.)
I would love to hear anyone’s thoughts to these questions and/or suggested itineraries for us. I didn’t note it above, but we’re super excited to eat in PR and can’t wait to try the local food. Thank you in advance for any information you can share!
