Solo Traveler in Dublin - Tips Beyond Official Touristy Spots?
Hello!
I am a single woman (mid 20s) traveling to Dublin alone next week. I've never been anywhere internationally, and don't really travel alone often, but I'm going for a wedding where I probably won't know many of the people.
I am at a loss for where I should go and what I should do in Dublin. I've been on the official tourism page, but can never tell how much of it is genuinely recommended versus tourist traps.
I really only have two days to fill, and a morning. I'd like to walk as much as possible, to save on costs, and I love a walk. I'm staying near Temple Bar, just on the other side of River Liffey. I don't drink, so I've ruled out all the pubs near me.
Here's what I've found that sounds interesting so far from the tourism pages:
- Leo Burdock for fish and chips
- Loose Canon Cheese and Wine for a sandwich
- Walking around Trinity College
- Perhaps seeing a Hallmark parody show at Smock Alley
I'd be interested to hear if there are any recommended ice cream shops or sights that I won't find on the tourism pages?
I've read that Dublin is very safe, but to avoid O'Connell Street. Is this all I should look out for? I don't need a certain kind of purse, or anything? I am a naturally anxious person, so I'm getting a little worried for my solo trip, but I think I will enjoy it!
EDIT:
I also meant to include a quick DART ride to Howth and a hike sounds nice! However, several times in my life, I have been picked up and carried by the wind (I wish I was kidding). This may be a silly question, but is this something I should be concerned about if I decide to hike in Howth?
Thank you so much in advance, and I'm excited to explore what is sure to be a beautiful city with the time I have!
