What I See In You
You are a beauty
no artist could ever capture.
Not in marble,
no matter how carefully the chisel falls.
Not in oil,
no matter how perfectly the colors blend.
Not in clay,
no matter how gentle the hands that shape it.
Because what I see in you
was never meant to be contained
inside a frame.
Your smile is a sunrise—
the kind that makes the world
feel new again,
the kind that makes darkness
remember it cannot last forever.
Your body is a landscape
made by God's own hand,
every curve and every line
a place I could lose myself in,
a beauty that reminds me
that creation itself can be breathtaking.
But somehow,
you don't see yourself
the way I see you.
And strangely,
that makes you even more beautiful.
There is a sweetness
in your not knowing.
A humility
in the way you cannot understand
why I look at you
the way I do.
You don't walk through the world
believing you are extraordinary,
and perhaps that is exactly
what makes you so extraordinary.
Because beneath your beauty
there is kindness.
Behind your smile
there is gentleness.
Inside your heart
there is humility.
And those things
are what make your countenance shine.
Beauty may catch my eyes,
but kindness keeps my heart.
Your body may make me stop
and admire God's handiwork,
but your soul
is what makes me want to stay.
I wish, just once,
you could borrow my eyes
and look at yourself
the way I look at you.
I wish you could see
what I know.
That you are not simply beautiful.
You are priceless.
Not because you are perfect.
Not because you never hurt,
never doubt,
never stumble.
But because there is only one you.
And the woman I see
when you aren't trying to be beautiful—
when you are simply being yourself,
laughing, caring, helping,
showing kindness without expecting praise—
that is the woman
I find most breathtaking of all.
So if you cannot see
what I see in you,
let me see it for you
until you can.
Let me remind you
that your beauty is more
than what a mirror can measure.
Because the mirror can show me
your face.
But it cannot show me
the light behind it.
And that light—
that is what makes you
beautiful beyond anything
an artist could ever create.
