Stairs or ramp?

I have a section of my rabbits’ run that is about knee height that I want to provide access to, and I’m going back and forth between a ramp and stairs.

My childhood pet rabbit bypassed his ramp and just jumped up on his little shelf, so I’m wondering if that was a Dust-Bunny quirk or a general rabbit preference.

I’m leaning toward stairs and was hoping someone might have a recommendation for step height and step dimension that would be easy to jump up and big enough to land on comfortably (without trial and erroring to figure it out myself).

Best hutch bedding?

Do you have a favourite material for hutch bedding? The structure I’m converting has a hard floor in the interior (rather than wire mesh). From my childhood pet rabbit days, I was always told no pine or cedar shavings because of the respiratory concern, but I see some comments here that high temp treated pine is ok.

Thanks for any input!

Is there any way I can minimize the neighbour’s dog barking at me?

I love dogs. I grew up with dogs. I studied animal science in college. This is definitely not an “I hate dogs” post. But I am at my wit’s end with being barked at.

Our neighbour’s wire fence is about 10 feet from our driveway and extends into her backyard. We have a small stand of trees along the driveway, but nothing to block the sight line in the back.

If they can see or hear me at all, it’s game on. Even if I’m on my enclosed sun porch 40 feet away (where I’m writing this as they howl at me and the cats). Even if I’m behind a slated fence on the other side of the yard. Even if I’m in the garage. Even if I’m in the hot tub.

Solid barking for as long as I’m there. Today it was an hour nonstop before I gave up and went inside. Noise cancelling headphones can’t even compete! She didn’t come out once.

I just want to get the gardening done. It’s my prime joy in life and now it’s become an anxiety and avoidance. I hardly go outside. I have the shades down on most of the sun porch and can’t play music or anything without attracting their attention. I try to go out when they’re inside, but I only have one day off and she leaves them out for hours.

One day when we can afford a survey, we’re going to put in a privacy fence but that is expensive and not available in the immediate future.

I went to talk to her today after an hour and asked as kindly, apologetic, and non confrontationally as I could to bring them inside for a few minutes so I can have some peace. Basically went as well as “well, dogs bark and I have to let them outside to pee”. No shit, Sherlock. I don’t care about that! It’s the hours on end that you leave them out there howling at me that gets me!

What can I do to help the situation other than a fence eventually? I don’t have any desire to go the noise complaint route. I just want to live my life in peace and have them live happy doggy lives.
