Hi everyone, I am replacing my driveway and I have two quotes that are vastly different. I have no background in this and am hoping you can help me understand.

Quote 1: $7500

Installation of 2.5 to 3” on asphalt with all the normal removal of the old driveway, just mentions gravel. No mention of the base on the quote. This company has a lot of good ratings online and with the BBB.

Quote 2: $11,852

Removal of course. Installation of 3” VA#21A base stone. Installation of 2” (compacted thickness) SM-9.5AL bituminous concrete.

Research is showing this 2nd one is concrete asphalt which is confusing because I thought those were 2 different things.

There is obviously a big money difference here but I have no idea if this is the same material or not. Or if one is better than the other.

Can someone offer any insight into what I am seeing here? TYIA!
