3 y/o Golden Retriever
My sister’s beloved dog (3 y/o Golden Retriever) had a seizure for the first time yesterday. My dad rushed him to the emergency vet. They did blood work, urinalysis, and a chest X-ray, and everything came back good. They diagnosed him with epilepsy.
They said since this was the first one, they don’t recommend starting him on medication. As it’s possible these could be infrequent enough that he won’t need medication, but once he starts the med, he has to take it for the rest of his life.
We are so new to this and scared, please tell us everything we should know if you’ve done through sometime similar.
One question - his seizure was at noon yesterday, they did give him some sedation for his X-ray. Today 20 hours after the seizure he is still not himself. Very sad and subdued. Please tell me he’ll be himself again soon?!
