Unable to make any tactical decision

Title is pretty much that. Currently having my first truly big battle, and realizing that I don't think I can win without any form of numerical advantage.

Currently doing the campaign as a Southern Empire run, and army is a mix of imperial and aserai troops. We are at war with the Aserai and trying to fight an army siegeing Razih, which is currently my only fief, that has about a 100 man advantage with the garrison of the city.

While I could, and absolutely should do so as an actual siege defense, after an incident where I was gonna attack them with an army nearby, that instead chose to not attack it despite the severe numerical advantage we would have had, I am trying to use this to figure out tactics as I never really had to in the field. Except when I try to use the one strategy I have, one from the channel tactical enlightenment where you use your archers to effectively encircle their infantry on all sides and shoot them, I realized I can't do that as the reinforcing infantry will destroy the archers from the side, while the first wave completely destroy my infantry.

I have no idea what to do, all I have numerically is more archers and melee cavalry, which is mainly a mix of the imperial and aserai noble line, deployed. However the cavalry is busy trying to manage a horse archer force superior in number, and two detachment of melee cav on each side of my forces 10-15 men strong, which leaves my archers unprotected from the infantry until my reinforcements get to the front. Problem is, by that point they usually are already higher in kills than me and for the most part that gap grows from there.

I have no idea how to approach this battle, as this is my first battle between two major armies, both on the field and honestly how I should even split up my troops. Currently separating infantry into 3, archers into 3, and putting my cav and horse archers into separate divisions. I think at this point I should combine my infantry into just 2, but still have no idea what to do strategically.

If anyone could explain to me what I could do to when a siege battle this way, just so I have experience doing this, I would greatly appreciate it, any advice or criticism.

Not getting Town right next to my castle

As title says, I am not getting the town my castle is both next to and bound to. One of the Clans that it could've gone to had no fiefs, one had a castle also next to it, that I had siege just before hand, and I don't remember the third. Is there any way to guarantee getting it, or is there no point in siegeing right now? I know I could work towards independence, however I am doing the campaign and on my first playthrough, so I want to see the Southern empire through. Edit: I am clan tier 4 with two castles.

Siege Defense going horrendously

I am a vassal of the Southern empire, currently at war with the Western Empire, currently siegeing Poros. While it is not a fief belonging to me, or a battle that can't be won through auto resolve, it is at this point a point of pride for me.

I have been banging my head against the wall with this siege defense, and I don't understand why. They have 1811 troops to our 1042, so not even 2:1, but the last attempt I realized that I wasn't even equalling the kills somehow. They aren't able to get a siege tower or batteringram upto the gate reliably, and so they have to climb the walls but still we somehow get out killed, with the last one getting is around the 600's I think. I believe we mightve gotten to 900 kills, but I don't understand how I'm supposed to route them.

I go to YouTube, and one the videos has them using the fire catapult, maybe at a worse troop ratio, but they're able to route before the enemy even gets a batteringram or catapult up to the wall. I use every rock and fire pot for the catapults, firing or throwing, but I don't make a big enough dent for them to retreat. I know each city has a different map, so is this just a bad map or am I just playing terribly. As I said earlier it is autoresolvable, so assumedly I should be able to win this but I don't understand how.

Edit: I also don't have control over siege prep, both construction and deployment are by the AI.

Campaign Tutorial First Battle

I just got the game last night, and tried playing today. The first 2 tutorials I was able to get through, the 3rd I struggled then skipped after looking online and finding that others also struggle and a few suggest just going into a campaign instead.

I decided to move onto the Campaign Tutorial, however I can't even get past the first battle. I am ultimately outnumbered as I can't really use my general, my bowmen can't kill one of theirs, and up until my last try the force of 2 bowmen, 1 yari ashigaru, and 1 katana cav would clump up in one, making it to where charging would probably just kill my troops. This time, for whatever reason, they decided to split up their forces with one their bowmen and cav going after my cav. This time I was able to kill their bowmen, and ultimately mightve been able to win if I didn't use my general's inspire ability on my cav, which caused it to get surround and killed.

I don't know if I'm just playing poorly or if the game expects me to lose it, as I can't even finish the turn to finish the recruitment of the bowmen I have. Any tips for winning the battle, or do I just proceed with losing the first fight.

Question about fighting shields & how to use spears.

Just decided to start playing last night, and realized something when doing the arena practice battles. That being I don't know how to fight against shields beyond spaming attacks until they just drop their guard, is there another way to fight them beyond that as whenever I block them they end up just getting their shields back up before I can attack.

This is doubly problematic with a spear, where it feels I have to get lucky and they just decide to drop just before I land a hit, any tips for using a spear against shields in particular? Or anything else really for spears?
