2.3 gpa 1600 SAT
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to build a balanced college list and would appreciate advice from people who have seen unusual applicant profiles before.
My academics are pretty atypical:
2.3 UW GPA (about 2.7 W)
1600 SAT
AP Lang, AP World, AP Psych, AP Physics 1
Senior year: AP Lit, APUSH, AP African American Studies, AP Chem, APES
Some context:
I’m a first-generation immigrant who was in ESOL through elementary school. I’ve had significant family responsibilities throughout high school and was only recently diagnosed with ADHD, which explains a lot of my academic struggles. My transcript and standardized testing tell very different stories, which is why my profile looks so unusual.
Outside of school, I’ve focused heavily on civic engagement and public policy. I founded a student-led civic literacy organization, conduct independent research, participate in Mock Trial and Youth in Government, and am involved in leadership through my church.
I’m interested in studying political science, public
policy, or history.
Current list includes:
USC
Georgetown
American
Fordham
Howard
University of Miami
Penn State
Indiana University Bloomington
University of Iowa
Florida State
Arizona State
Michigan State
Pepperdine
University of San Diego
I’m not looking for a chance-me. I’m looking for advice on:
Which schools on this list seem unrealistic?
Which schools might be more open to a student whose SAT and GPA are so far apart?
What colleges should I add that value standardized testing and holistic review?
Has anyone seen applicants with extremely high test scores and very low GPAs have success anywhere?
Thanks!
