Are higher end items ever the smarter buy?

I used to think spending more on something was just a bad habit but I’m starting to think that is not always true. There are some things where buying the cheaper option over and over ends up costing more in the long run. It breaks, feels outdated quickly, does not work as well or just gets replaced sooner than expected. Then there are higher end items that seem expensive upfront but last longer, hold up better and still feel worth owning years later. I’m not talking about buying expensive things just to show off, more like the stuff where paying more once can actually make sense because it saves hassle, holds some value or just gets used constantly. Would love to hear any suggestions.
