Anyone else’s mental health noticeably better on OMAD?
I’ve been on and off with OMAD for a few months now, and I’ve noticed something a bit odd.
Whenever I decide not to do OMAD for a day and just graze instead, my mood seems to tank. It’s not because I’m thinking, “Oh no, I ate more today.” It’s not guilt or anything like that. I just become way more irritable, angry, lethargic, and generally low for no obvious reason. It’s happened enough times now that I don’t think it’s a coincidence.
I remember seeing a clip from a fasting documentary on Gaia where a guy with schizophrenia said he’d instinctively learned to fast for a few days and cut out certain foods because it made him feel much better. Obviously that’s just one person’s experience, but it did make me wonder if there’s actually something to this.
Has anyone else noticed their mental health being better with OMAD or fasting? Or come across any research that might explain why? I’m curious whether it’s blood sugar, inflammation, gut health, or something else.
The only reason I haven’t stuck with OMAD consistently is because I’m still not sure it’s the best way to eat long term. One huge meal can leave me feeling a bit too full, and sometimes I don’t want to feel hungry during the day. However, if the trade-off is that my mood falls apart whenever I stop, maybe it’s worth sticking with it.
For context, I’m young, in good health, and not overweight. I’m not doing OMAD for weight loss anymore, so I don’t think that’s really a factor here.
Would love to hear if anyone’s had a similar experience.
