overstocked? and aquascaping recommendations
I have a 20gal tall, cycled with seeded material and sat empty for around a month and a half. Water parameters are good (dealing with low hardness in my tap water). I initially stocked with five varying platies, to which they all seemed very happy! I was looking into different types of tetras as I wanted to establish the fish and let plants get much bigger before adding a pearl gourmani. The LFS recommended some neons and red eye tetras as he said they’d get along well. I got 4 neons and 5 red eye tetras, totaling to 14 total fish. After going home and doing the obligatory fun-time research I realized that I may have messed up. Will the two varying tetras be okay? I haven’t noticed any fin-nipping or bullying yet but I also found that I should be establishing fish in groups of minimum 6 (which my LFS didn’t have enough of either looking back) to prevent stress. Aquadvisor said with 6 neons and 6 red eyes I will be 108% overstocked. Should I give up on my gourmani dreams? Also with the platies preferring hard water and the tetras preferring soft water, it’s a cause of concern. Finally, any plant recommendations to fill out the tank.
Sorry for the long post!
