denied visa, but can now travel visa-free

Last year I applied for and was denied a tourist visa to a certain country, X. No explanation was given but there is a stamp of the refusal in the last page of my passport. Recently, a 30 day visa-free travel policy has been put into effect there for citizens of my country. I lived in country X for several years and, after I left, obtained a police clearance certificate showing that I have no crimes against my name there. Is there any reason why I shouldn't avail myself of the visa-free policy to visit the country this year?
