My Review of Yashahime Season 1
Overall: 2.5 maybe 3 out of 5
Pros:
---I like the main trio design and their unique backstories, I feel the sheer difference among them really gives them a lot of variety as character's, especially Setsuna who has the most interesting backstory among them
---I like all the little call backs to Inuyasha, mostly in the form of recurring demon characters such as the centipede demon, those bulbous chicken flying demons, the samurai moth demon etc.
---It was real nice to see that [Spoiler]>!Shiori!< makes a return. I was not expecting it, but I really like what they did with her character
---I am liking what they are doing with Kohaku's character
---I like Kirinmaru's design and the fact that he voiced by Crispin Freeman
---I like how the series attempts to (akwardly) insert Kirinmaru into the past lore narrative. It's clunky, but at least their is effort being made to do so.
---I am curious of where they are going with Zero's character
Cons:
---The series just meanders for way too long (which I know is RICH coming from the 100+ filler series of Inuyasha). But it feels like nothing really happens and no tangible progress is being made. At least with Inuyasha we can see progress being made with gathering Jewel shards and having the goal of hunting down Naraku...but here...not so much. We do have the goal of killing the Dream Butterfly...but we don't really make any progress for it, ESPECIALLY during the 1st half of season 1. You could cut out most of the episodes for season 1 and honestly...nothing really changes.
---the action is pretty underwhelming. The series suffers from everyone standing around and talking and explaining motivation...which Inuyasha ALSO did to be fair...but at least with Inuyasha they managed to keep the pacing still going while with Yashahime, everyone will just dead ass stop for several minutes to explain their motivation or how their power works etc. It's really jarring and noticable.
---Kirinmaru has some interesting lore...but as a character he is kind of boring.
