Help!!
Hi everyone! Two weeks ago I adopted an 8 year old norwegian elkhound who we believe was used for breeding and then dumped. She had a microchip that didn’t lead anywhere. She knows basic commands which leads me to believe she had some training or family at some point. She is also about 10 pounds overweight, was 30 pounds overweight when the shelter got her. Got spayed two weeks ago and also being treated for anaplasmosis and lymes.
She is extremely stubborn and not easily persuaded with food. Sometimes I literally cannot get her outside to go potty and when I finally do, she plants all of her legs and won’t allow me to walk her. At first she was peeing in the house when we were gone, so we’ve been crating her and now she is peeing in the crate and then laying in it. She only pees inside when she gets scared. Like hearing a firework, loud car, or a door slam. She immediately cowers at any discipline. Then once she gets in that funk, it takes a full night of sleep to reset and return to normal.
She is an absolute sweetheart who loves attention and I do not want her to go back to the shelter. I am at a loss, please any suggestions and advice is welcome.
