Virginia Caregivers Getting Paid to Care for Parents
I care for both my mom and my mother-in-law full time at home. I have not worked in six years due to their schedule and needs. I have attempted to go down the "getting paid to care for them" rabbit hole but only get so far in the process or researching what options are available that it hasn't yet resulted in anything. I have people telling me all the time, they know someone who gets paid for their parents but either they live in another state or their exact situations aren't what we are dealing with. Both of the moms have Alzheimer's and although they have been moderately functioning, my mom in particular has started to decline more rapidly now and in addition to getting resources lined up in advance of getting the help that exceeds my pay grade and capabilities, I want to figure out if indeed I can qualify for anything that would allow me to save for retirement or offset the fact that I don't have an actual employer contributing to my Social Security... Anyone in Virginia who does get paid for caregiving for family out there...?...and what can you suggest? I mean, I might not outlive them anyway due to the stress, HaHa...but if I do get a few more years after my watch is over I'd like to worry less about my own retirement. Thank you.
