The Search For Everything re-listen and love!

When I listened to both Waves from The Search For Everything when I discovered Mayer, I thought they were very weak genre-wise and such unpredictable EPs and I remember being dissapointed. I thought they were very weak in his constantly strong catalogue of music - normally I love whatever he puts out but I thought that album as a whole was very weak.

This week I've been re-listening to the album, and I realise how under-appreciated it really is. Possible it's because I'm more musically mature in a way and I finally learnt to appreciate the album - it's infinitely better than I remember and I think the album is just poetry - I think it might even be one of my favourite albums. He deals with the break-up a lot more relatable than a lot of other musicians.

I think most break-up songs usually have the saddening factor of the seperation, but Mayer addresses those feelings of self-doubt, growing distant, plastering the pain with alcohol, missing your ex, and ultimately realising he would never forgive himself for letting the girl break up with him, and realising she's 'gonna live forever' in him.

I'd say my favourite track is Rosie, it talks about that emotion after a break-up where you finally realise who you've let go of, and your yearning for her and desire to be with them again, and never treat them the way you did again. I think Mayer's the only musician who could write such a beautiful song which still goes under the radar in an impressive album - 10/10 from me!
