After 380 hours, I am done with Three Houses, just some thoughts.
I did Blue Lions > Verdant Wind > Crimson Flower and skipped Silver Snow, I might go back and do SS when I feel up to it, but for now I feel like I got my fill of the game.
So prior to Three Houses, the only games in the series I ever played were Path of Radiance and Awakening, which are arguably the most popular games in the seires. If I had to rank the three of them, Awakening is last and Three Houses is my current favorite. I feel like Three Houses basically did what Awakening tried to do, but was hollistcally more succesful, that said I still liked Awakening, it just wasnt nearly as interesting as the other two.
So yeah, currently Three Houses is my favorite game in the series and I think it has a lot to do with how compelling the story and characters were, in tandem with how fun the gameplay is. The map design is not nearly as strong as it was in Path of Radiance, but I really enjoyed the class system and the level of customization that was on offer.
Between the three routes that I played, I felt that Blue Lions and Crimson Flower were by far way more interesting than Verdant Wind. While I liked that Claude's ideals was about opening borders and breaking down the barriers within Fodlan, unfortunately, while he himself is a charming and fun character, he felt somewhat absent within his own route. Compare that to BL and CF, Dimitri and Edelgard are front and center, the conflicts tie back deeply into who they are, its just a shame that CF is clearly rushed. I felt that the end of her campaign was meant to the halfway point and it was supposed to go on so that she could defeat the actual villains of the story, but clearly they ran out of development time and had to cut it short. Even with those drawbacks in mind, I still loved the CF route.
Overall I loved Three Houses and I'm glad Fortune's Weave takes place in the same world, I'm looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and hopefully some advancements in the map design and the way the class system works.
