Desktop Linux apps on a Samsung phone or tablet. I’m building PocketLap and looking for testers
Hey everyone! If you use DeX, you probably get the appeal of having a computer in your pocket. I’ve always wanted that setup with a full Linux desktop and the apps I normally use on a laptop 🙂
So I’m building PocketLap. It runs Ubuntu with KDE Plasma locally on your Android phone or tablet, without root. Full DeX support!
There’s a lot more to it than getting Linux to boot through PRoot. I’ve put a lot of work into the desktop environment, hardware integration and compatibility layers to make it useful for everyday tasks.
ARM64 and x64 Linux apps work out of the box, with Discover included for easy installation. USB drives, cameras and microphones work too. You can also run Windows programs and games through Wine, though compatibility varies. All compatibility layers are included and already configured, so there’s nothing extra to install or set up.
You can use a physical keyboard and mouse. On foldable phones, Flex Mode also puts the desktop on top and a keyboard and touchpad on the bottom.
I’d love feedback from people who already use their phones or tablets for desktop work. What apps do you miss in your current setup? Try them in PocketLap and let me know how it goes.
All Pro features will be free for beta testers during the beta 😊

Thanks for giving it a try! Let me know your device model and what you’d like to run.
