If I try to find a place as centrally as possible, how feasible is using public transport only? It'll be a while before I can get the money to rack up the hours I need (but my plan is to wait until I am 25 as the hours needed are then drastically reduced, but that's 2 years away)

Context: Secondary, maths trained (double method). Aiming to teach at colleges first (is it realistic or do most college teachers transfer from high schools after gaining experience ?)
