Help! 4-month-old puppy obsessed with eating poop!
I could really use some advice on this as it’s stressing me out so much. My puppy is determined to eat poop. I have successfully trained him to no longer eat his own (something he used to do when we first got him) by training him to come inside and get a treat as soon as he poops. However, on our walks he will sniff out other dogs faeces and eat it. I have been working on “leave it” and “drop it” commands and he will sometimes do that for a high value treat, but sometimes he’s so fast I can’t stop him in time. I walk him on an extendable lead in our local country park and people are terrible about picking up after their dogs round here. It drives me mad at the best of times but now I’m extra worried he’s going to pick up some hideous parasite or illness from eating shit. Walks are becoming quite stressful as I’m on high alert all the time watching in case he picks stuff up.
Does anyone else have any experience with this who successfully trained their dog out of it?
