Skipping the chest animation entirely? (Possible spoilers for late-game mechanics)

I noticed something on a run today and I'm not entirely sure what triggered it.

I was running Inverse Boss Rash to unlock something and I'd gotten to the point where I was obliterating everything on screen and otherwise just waiting out the clock. I realized I hadn't seen any chest popups lately and watched until I saw a chest appear and get drawn into me. Instead of an animation I just saw "Evolution!" appear above Dark Soma's head. I checked and found that the chest had evolved one of my weapons.

When was this added, and what triggers it? I was seeing chest screens earlier in the run, so I'm guessing it's either linked to going into the fastest fast forward mode or getting x chests in the same run.

How does generative AI give high-level advice on writing when it's a choose-the-next-word machine?

Like a lot of people in corporate positions, my boss' boss' boss' boss' boss is demanding that we find ways to use generative AI as part of our jobs; they handed my team MS 365 Copilot licenses and encouraged us to experiment, with very little specific guidance. I haven't really used AI much outside of work aside from a few curious pokes in its early days (I honestly don't have much use for it in my everyday life) so my understanding of it is pretty surface-level.

One of my side projects that I've been working on is writing a brief manual for my team's internal use. Out of curiosity I fed the completed first draft to the company-approved AI system and asked if it had any suggestions for improvement just to see what would happen.

The suggestions it came back with were generally solid and much higher-level than I expected-- suggestions like I should move this section closer to the front because it's very important and I should consider changing that header to better reflect the following paragraph. I considered its advice and made edits accordingly when I agreed with it.

My understanding of generative AI is that it's a statistical machine that picks the most likely next word in sequence using complex statistical math. How is a probable-next-word-picking-machine giving me the illusion that it understood my manual? How is it offering me solid, actionable, high-level advice on improving the structure of a fifteen-page document?
