House smells like vanilla chalky perfume carmel smell help!!
We bought a house over a year ago and it had a smell that most described different. Carmel perfume vanilla chalk floral sweet is what many said. They say i dont smell anything but your airfreshener but we dont have 1. Our realtor said it was essential oil that the pervious owner might have used but its not a horrible smell. The house is a 20 year old clean colonial looks immaculate the previous owners had a housekeeper. But the smell will not go away and its making my son and I sick. It dries my mouth and nose out gives me a headache and feels like the air is stale and I get lightheaded. We have tried alot. We cleaned the ductwork wiped down all the walls restrained the hardwood floors called out many many company's ac furnance mold company all said house is beautiful well kept cant be mold. Everything looks good. A painter I called out smelled it made him so thirsty and dry mouth he said I should look into it further. We opened up all windows put box fans for months we have put air purifiers dehumidifier bought air quality machines etc. When I leave the house my clothes my hair smell like it I have to shower and wash my clothes to stop smelling it. Help its desoying my family my son and I moved out we cant live there. Im helpless hopeless not sure what to do.
