Early termination of lease (Waadt) - how to handle handover with replacement tenant when moving abroad?

Hello,

I have a question. Maybe someone can help. We need to move out in about three months and were told by our regie that we should find a replacement tenant. So far so good. One thing that worries us in particular is that we will be moving abroad and when we took over the lease from the previous tenant, he still had to come back on the official handover date, even though we had already moved in earlier. Not a problem for him, because he just moved within the same city.

We are however unsure how this would work in our case. If we find a suitable replacement tenant and the apartment is handed over earlier, will we still need to be physically present again on the official lease termination date next year? We will no longer be living in Switzerland at that point and would not be able to simply return for this.

Early termination of lease - how to handle handover with replacement tenant?

Hi,

we can officially terminate the contract only once a year. Since we need to move out in about three months, we were told that we should find a replacement tenant, otherwise, we will remain liable for the rent until summer next year. This won't be difficult. However, one thing worries us in particular. We will be moving abroad and when we took over the lease from the previous tenant, he still had to come back on the official handover date, even though we had already moved in earlier.

We are therefore unsure how this would work in our case. If we find a suitable replacement tenant and the apartment is handed over earlier, will we still need to be physically present again on the official lease termination date next year? We will no longer be living in Switzerland at that point and would not be able to simply return for this.

Best area near Stanford for postdoc couple

Hi,

I have a question and would be grateful for your advice. We’re a couple relocating from Europe for my husband’s Stanford postdoc. I may not be able to work for the first 1–4 months, so we need to be realistic about rent.

For postdoc couples, would you recommend Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City, Mountain View, or somewhere else? Any tips for furnished sublets or realistic rent would be appreciated. We’re looking for a place with reasonable access to Stanford, ideally somewhat walkable or transit-friendly, and preferably furnished/semi-furnished.

Thank you.

Flight in 2 days, spelling/romanization issue on ticket

Hi,

just a quick question. I have a flight with T'way (Korean airline), departing in two days. I just found out that there is a spelling/romanization issue with my Korean middle name on the ticket. My European first and last names are correct according to my passport.

On my passport the first syllable of the Korean middle name is "Myung" and it was accidentally spelled as "Myeong". Myeong is technically correct since Korea revised the romanization of the Korean language in 2000; however, on my European passport it is still written as "Myung". Is this going to be an issue? On their website T'way states that they can theoretically deny you boarding if there is an issue with your ticket.

I will of course call them later, but I am pretty nervous right now.
