A bit of a weirdly specific request, but I've been wanting to read more sci-fi that's really out there, especially older sci-fi novels, particularly involving aliens; weird, niche, out-of-the-box, and enthusiastically Alien.

Heavily leaning in the direction of reptilian species specifically, but any stories concerned with aliens that aren't just humanoids are good.

Bonus points if there are any books that were more influential/foundational to the wider genre than people give them credit for, or books that people just generally sleep on. They don't need to be old necessarily, but I have a soft spot for those bizarre and campy pulp sci-fi stories that are just kind of doing whatever they want. Open to works from any country, so long as they have an English translation.

I'm less interested in straight-forward war and invasion narratives; I love when very nonhuman aliens are portrayed positively, or at least with nuance. I love when their worldbuilding has a lot of thought put into it.
