Taken my car (base giulia 2018) to the shop recently due to water getting into my passenger footwell and somehow getting the trunk wet as well. Had to change the BCM which works fine now.

I went to the dealer to see how the car was doing and when I turned the car on, engine check light came on and code P0299 came up.

I seen some forums and videos online explaining how it could actually be a wastegate linkage to be the problem.

I guess my question would be, should I replace the wastegate to see if that is the problem? I noticed a while back that it had some play to it. The next question is why would the dealer just go straight to replacing a new turbo instead of checking any small issues first?
